The novel follows the story of Agnieszka, a young girl living in a village that is periodically required to send a girl to an aloof wizard known as the Dragon, who is tasked with defending the villagers from a corrupted, enchanted forest known as the Wood. When Agnieszka unexpectedly gets chosen, she discovers she possesses magical abilities – and she alone can confront the Wood. Her journey involves unlocking her innate magic, uncovering the Wood’s mysteries, and finding courage to save her home and loved ones.
